Breaking Ground: A Community Rises Together

This intimate documentary follows Maribel, a full-time working mother of three, as she moves from a deteriorating mobile home to foundation-built modular homeownership in Boulder's Ponderosa neighborhood—one of the city's most culturally rich and economically diverse communities. Her journey embodies the hope, fear, and determination of working families fighting to stay in the places they've helped build.

Boulder built a factory to build homes for its own people. BoulderMOD isn't housing policy - it's a city taking production into its own hands to create affordable homeownership in one of America's most expensive markets. The homes are constructed by high school students learning skilled trades through Boulder Valley School District programs, building their community's future while gaining real-world expertise. Their work, alongside civic leaders from Boulder city government and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, represents an innovative collaboration that could provide homeownership for hundreds of families.

When Maribel gets her keys, she reopens a dream for working-class families across America. This film shows affordable housing isn't charity - it's infrastructure for dignity, and a choice about what kind of communities we want to be.
